History

Knotlog was founded by a U.S. Coast Guard-licensed captain, who in his many travels up and down the Atlantic Intracoastal Waterway realized just how difficult it was to locate many marinas, boatyards and chandleries on the Web, and the information that did exist was often expired. In fact, most of it wasn’t actually maintained by the business owner if indeed it was maintained at all! It was this frustrating discovery that led to the creation of Knotlog.

Why Knotlog?

A good website is the best way for potential customers to find you. Most boaters today have a smartphone with a web browser onboard, such as iPhone, Blackberry or Android, but without a solid website and some targeted content they may not be able to find you. However, if these boaters are using Knotlog’s directory of marine businesses to find a place to tie up for the night or to get fuel or supplies, they are far more likely to locate you. We aim to provide boaters a means to discover those businesses, and locate them easily. We provide a listing of marine businesses, which helps marine businesses keep their information up-to-date so their customers can find them. The listing in our directory costs nothing, but we also offer premium services like custom-designed websites and the ability to highlight a page in our directory to attract more attention.

Knotlog is a small web development shop. That means we are lean and flexible. Unlike some larger studios with huge staffs and large overheads, Knotlog consists of a couple of truly dedicated folks who are totally invested in building solid, reliable and useful websites.
